CIRENCESTER UNITED 0 WOOTTON BASSETT 3

United without expierienced centre backs Offley & Edwards, gave full debuts to their 3

Brazilian signings, Andre & Denilson DeSouza, & Allison Silve.United put in a good first half performance, and had most of the possession but were undone ten minutes before half time when Jon Magani beat the off-side trap to score. Bassett who had parted company by mutual agrement with manager Paul Burke earlier in the week gained more possession in the second half but it was the home side who created most chances, however the visitors secured the points when Rich Saunders had a speculative shot that was deflected past home keeper Michael Bowman.

Hellenic Reserves Division Two West

Easington Sports 5 Ciren United 1

United traveled to Easington in the knowledge that the home side didnt have a first team game

and it was the first team players that made the differance, on a wet and boggy pitch United were 1-0 down at half time first team player Mike Spaull scoring on the half hour.

The second half saw the rain ease but the wind got stronger and when a Phil Crabb clearance took on the appearance of a boomerang with the ball falling to Spaull he made it 2-0 and the home side quickly put the game beyond the visitors but they kept going and Danny Lowes scored a late consolation goal.

For Forty minutes played there was nothing to choose between these two sides,
With United having two good chances to take the lead, but crosses into the
6yard box which only needed the slightest of touches, found no one on the end of them. Then as in recent weeks they were undone from a free kick just outside the box.
This time a Wayne Fuller drive, driven low straight through the wall also deceived keeper Michael Bowman making his 1st team debut following some good displays in the Reserves. United pressed for an equaliser, and both sides played some good football given the blustery conditions. The visitors secured the points when Fuller
Latched onto the ball diverted into his path by a defensive header, and went round Bowman to score.

A much-improved performance deserved at least a share of the spoils,
with Jason Varney making his debut in goal pulling off some good saves,
and Travis Robinson scoring on his long awaited debut, the side now looks capable
of climbing the table, unfortunately a break in fixtures means they will have to wait
two weeks before this happens, a draw looked likely until a late penalty given for a
push by Phil Crabb as the home forward broke into the box.

Letcombe 5 Cirencester United 0
Manager Chokri Kartit was short of 5 of his senior players for this match,
and with United having lost the home game to Letcombe 13-0 this was a damage
limitation exercise, Simon Offley was again outstanding and deservedly wore the captains arm band for the 1st time, however he was not able to withstand the pressure from the High flying home side, who scored 3 by half time and 2 in the second half, with the goals coming from Richard Claydon, Tom Patton, Mark Rees and 2 from Iain Whatley.

This was a cracking game with the home side giving as good as they got in an even first
half that somehow remained goaless, Michael Bowman did make 2 good stops but his counter part also had some saves to make, with Daniel Lowes and Vladimer Bedrich
the full backs getting forward as often as possible, and Shaun Smith swinging in some good crosses, with Paul Hammond and Paul Murphy playing well in the centre of midfield they just lacked a cutting edge. However within two minutes of the second half the visitors were awarded a free kick just outside the box and Lee Mosley struck a good shot that breached the wall and left Bowman stranded, Johnny Fletcher added another before Bedrich went close to pulling one back but his shot was not hard enough to beat the keeper, Robin Alexander added a late 3rd goal to end any chance of a fight back in a game well refereed by
Paul Dillon.

This Weekend Games

This week the 1st team travel to Clanfield whilst the reserves entertain Clanfield reserves both game ko 3-00

Cirencester United 0 Headington Amateur’s 3

Hellenic League Division One West
Cirencester United 0 Headington Amateur’s 3
United got off to the worst possible start when the two central defenders left it
To each other to deal with the ball that was easy to clear, but the hesitation allowed
Darren Witchell to pounce, stride forward, and place his shot past Dean Dixon
The home side recovered and gradually started asking the questions, with Vladimer Bedrich reaching the goal line and sending in a decent cross but no one could get the final touch, New signing from Cricklade, Dellroy Fallon also knocked in a good ball, but again no one on the end of it. Straight after half time Headington doubled their lead when Adam Lovegrove hit a free kick from just outside the box that breached the wall and flew past Dixon,
United almost pulled a goal back immediately, when Richard Miles broke free on the left, worked his way into the box and pulled the ball back into the area finding Bilal Kartit who with a neat pass found Fallon who placed his shot but it lacked the venom to beat keeper Dan Blanchini, Miles again used his speed to break into the box but as he went round Blanchini. The keeper reached out to palm the ball away from him, this was a great stop, and dented the home sides hopes, they were extinguished in the 85 minute when Matt Phillips converted a penalty awarded against Simon Offley for a push on Lovegrove.

This was another game United deserved to get something from, Rich Miles went close twice early in the 1st half, on another day at least one of them would of gone in, United were generally defending well but a lapse of concentration allowed the Pewsey Vale forward Banks to break clear and shot past Dean Dixon but the ball bounced back off the far post, but before a United player could clear Woodward followed up to tap home. The visitors again played some good football in the second half, but most of the balls forward were gobbled up by the tall keeper Thompson, however Thompson provided Miles with another chance when kicking a clearance to him but
again his shot went the wrong side of the post.

Hellenic League Supplementary Cup

30 01 2008

For this cup tie Manager Chokri Kartit gave debuts to several players

he wanted to look at, including Jason Varney in goal, regular keeper

Dean Dixon will be away for the March fixtures, and Varney did well

although the 3rd goal was from long range and he thought was going

over, but dropped just under the bar this his only mistake came in the

90th minute. The home side had gone into a 2-0 lead at half-time but

United came out strongly in the second half having made a couple of

changes, which stiffened up the midfield, they fought their way back

into the game when Richard Horner found Richard Miles with a ball

over the top he went round two defenders and fired home, United had

3 good chances to level the score but failed with two one on ones. The

home side securing their place with that late goal.
